An organization of women whose primary mission is that of humble service to the Church. The members of this ministry are committed to their “call to service” in maintaining the detailed cleanliness of our Church and improving its appointments. They are responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of the Church, particularly the Altar, the Sacristy, Holy Water founts, crystal bowls, Holy Water reserves, the pews and missals in pew racks, as well as cleaning and maintaining the Altar linens. All members also serve on decoration committees and decorate during the Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter Seasons. They also graciously provide service to parishioners and guests during parish meals and any functions given by Church.
St. Augustine of Hippo (354-430; the great Fifth Century Bishop of North Africa) is credited as teaching, “he who sings prays twice,” and "the song of the lips must first have been a song in the soul".
He wrote this in a commentary on Psalm 73 explaining: “For he that singeth praise, not only praiseth, but only praiseth with gladness: he that singeth praise, not only singeth, but also loveth him of whom he singeth. In praise, there is the speaking forth of one confessing; in singing, the affection of one loving.”
A soldier tells the story: I had a certain chaplain when I served in the army. At Mass on Sunday he requested that we turn to such and such page and sing the entrance hymn. When few joined in, he stopped and repeated his request with the quote from Augustine but added, "if the Lord gave you a great voice, use it to praise God. If you were not gifted with a good voice, sing anyway and get even with Him".
Christ the King Choir is a mixed (male and female) choir which provides the sacred music on all Sundays, Holy Days of Obligation, Funerals, and other solemn occasions. The Choir practices each week on Thursday evenings, from 6-8 P.M. All are welcome to join the choir, regardless of previous experience. All that is required is a willingness to learn and practice. You will learn how to sing Gregorian Chant and sacred polyphony. Besides giving great glory to God by your service, by your participation in the choir, you gain a right to a greater share in the graces of the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass.
A choir must have a prayerful spirit to be a credit before the throne of God. The Choir can only give what they have. Those souls must therefore learn to pray with a spirit of praise so that they may better give what they have. Our director, will endeavor to bring out your gifts of prayerful, praising song. May the Holy Ghost lead you to the generosity of offering yourself to this service to better glorify Our Father in imitation of His Son ("I have glorified thee on the earth; I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do" [John 17:4]). If you are interested in joining, please contact Justin Patin, the director of the choir.
Men and boys who are interested in serving at the altar, please contact Fr. Francis or Fr. Pardue. Before being allowed to serve, you will need testing and approval from one of the priests and training will be provided if needed. Altar servers are always in demand, whether it be during the week, on Sundays, or on more solemn occasions, e.g., Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, and Holy Days of Obligation.
Serving at the altar is a glorious privilege granted to laymen by the Church and should be something that all Christian boys aspire to. The more closely one participates in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, the more graces, all else being equal, one receives. After the priest, the server has a right to the greatest shares of graces. The server shares the same privilege as St. John the Evangelist, who assisted at the foot of the Cross on Mount Calvary together with the Blessed Virgin Mary.
This important ministry is one of hospitality and service at every weekend Mass and all special occasions. In addition to welcoming people at the beginning of Mass, the Ushers pass the collection baskets at the Offertory.
Men's group which provides a forum for men to discuss common experiences and concerns in our homes, work and social lives. We seek a better understanding of what Christ would call us to do in dealing with various issues in the lives of Christian men.
Let's learn a little about the Faith and have some social time together. We meet on the last Saturday of each month at 9 AM. Bring your smile and something to snack on, and let's enjoy time together. Children welcome.
Catechism classes for the youth are held on most Saturday mornings from 9 to 10 AM. For the schedule for the whole academic year, please get in touch with Sr. Mary Tarcisius, SCJM. Catechism classes are mandatory for all children through high school who do not receive daily religious instruction at home. To be held exempt from bringing your children to catechism, you must speak with Sr. Mary Tarcisius so she can pass judgment upon the instruction you are providing at home.
This is a group under the tutelage of Fr. Pardue for Catholics interested in expanding their knowledge of the Catholic Faith. We review the basics but enlarge upon them with additional information and more detailed concepts. We cannot be satisfied with the knowledge we received as a child or when converting but must be continually growing in our knowledge of the Faith. If we love God and His Church, we will zealous to learn more about Him and His Church. Also, if we would hope to be capable witnesses of the Catholic Faith in the world, we must prepare ourselves by diligent study and prayer. We usually meet once a week on Friday evenings. At the moment, classes are on hiatus. If you are interested, please contact Fr. Pardue.
